Research Goal

The goal of this usability test is to gain knowledge on behavior during common tasks throughout the mobile application - including onboarding, alert customization, job search & application. We hope to find what the user is looking for and what information they need when completing these tasks.

  • Let’s say that you’ve been on the job hunt for a bit of time and a friend recommends that you use ‘Ziprecruiter’. You’ve downloaded the application and you’re now ready to try it out.
SEARCH FOR A JOB
  • Now that you’ve signed up, you’d like to explore job opportunities in the app. Find a job that fits the criteria you’re looking for.
APPLY FOR A JOB
  • Now that you’ve found a job you’d be interested in, proceed in your next steps.
    1. OBSERVATION: Does the user already have their resume created?
      1. If yes: where did you learn how to format your resume?
      2. If no: how would you go about creating a resume?
      3. How do you know if your resume is formatted properly for the job you’re applying for?
      4. Do you change your resume dependant of the job you’re applying for?
SAVE JOB FOR LATER
  • You found some jobs you think you could apply for, but you’d like to think about it some more before you apply. Find a way to keep these jobs somewhere to access later.
CUSTOMIZE ALERTS
  • You’ve been using Ziprecruiter for about a week and you feel like you keep forgetting to check for updates. What would you do?
OPEN FOR EMPLOYER
  • Let’s say that you’re not sure what kind of job you’re really looking for. How would you go about making your information available so jobs you fit the title for can find you?

Methodology

Time: 2 Weeks and 4 Days.

Software Required: ZipRecruiter App, Survey Monkey, MS suite.

Techniques: Design Questionnaire, One-on-one Interview, Qualitative Analysis, Design Thinking, User Testing

Six Participants currently looking for work whose age is between 20-28.

Moderate Environment as Coffee-Shop session.

Participants were uncomfortable making an account without being able to see what the app has to offer.

Participants were confused when  they could only elect three types of  information to start a search

Options weren't found expected

Since the bell is a recognizable icon for notifications, this is where participants went even for push notifications.

Participants were still frustrated with the experience, even though they were able to remedy the location issue.

"Open for employer" option not found, but would be appreciated.

Since this option seems to be a standard on most job search platform - we decided to ask users to see if they could find the option since we couldn't find it ourselves.

Participants were expecting this option to  be automatic
